Denver Hammonds, Sr., age 87, of Cunningham, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at his residence.
Denver was born in Cunningham, Kentucky on February 21, 1937, to the late Mary Monette Hammonds. He worked as an accountant for nearly 65 years in the Saint Louis area, Chicago, and finally ran Hammonds Accounting and Tax Service in Cunningham, Kentucky. Denver was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He served as a Baptist minister in the Chicago area and filled the pulpit when needed when he moved his family from Chicago to his hometown in Kentucky.
Denver is survived by daughter, Julie Gale Hammonds of Paducah, Kentucky; six sons, Denver Hammonds, Jr. (Marianne) of Cunningham, Kentucky, Timothy Hammonds (Crystell) of New Albany, Indiana, John Hammonds (Cheryl) of Villa Park, Illinois, David Hammonds (Tracy) of Paducah, Kentucky, Philip Hammonds (Amber) of Wickliffe, Kentucky, and Steven Hammonds of Cunningham; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Harre (Caleb), Samantha Grode (Marty), Shaun Hammonds, Joel (Chandler) Hammonds, Alexa Hammonds, Raymond Hammonds, Donnie Hammonds, Christopher Pitt, and Alexander Hammonds; and ten great-grandchildren, Matthew Grode, Makayla Grode, MJ Grode, Makenna Grode, Addison Harre, Cailie Harre, Elora Hammonds, Clark Hammonds, Dean Hammonds, and Winifred Hammonds.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Delores Southard Hammonds; daughter, Melissa Hammonds; sister, Caroline Pillion Seville; brother, Calvin Pillion, and his mother.
A Memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cunningham, Kentucky at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the service time of 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Monday, June 10, 2024
