Waters stepping down as play-by-play announcer for Marshall County Football

Jeff Waters, with his kids Reed and Anna, receiving the Honorary Captain’s jersey before the Marshals home opener on August 23, 2019.

After 29 seasons and well over 300 games, I have made the difficult decision to step down as play-by-play announcer for Marshall County Football. I want to thank all of the coaches that I’ve been privileged with whom to work over these 29 seasons.

I also wish to thank the hundreds of players that have come through the program during my time as the announcer. Much appreciation to Jim Freeland, Chris Freeland and Sherry Darnall at WCBL for allowing me to do the games all these years. And I’d certainly be remiss if I didn’t express my gratitude to the members of our broadcast crew over the years. I’d especially like to thank my family for their support during all these years.

It has indeed been an honor and a privilege to have been able to describe the action of Marshall County Football. I was fortunate to be able to cover three Marshall County teams that won district championships, one that won a regional championship and two others that advanced to the regional championship game.

I was blessed with good health and am proud that I only missed three games during these 29 seasons. This decision has truly been one of the hardest I have ever had to make, but I feel it’s a good time in my life to slow down a bit. I look forward to being in the stands at as many games as possible to root on the Marshals.

I love this football program with all of my heart and wish them the very best. As I have told the players and coaches over the years, there is no bigger fan of Marshall County Football than Jeff Waters.

I will continue to broadcast Marshall County Girls and Boys Basketball for the foreseeable future.

Aaron Clayton, who has done a great job on our broadcast crew as sideline reporter for the last several seasons, and has extensive play-by-play experience across multiple sports, will be moving into the play-by-play seat for football. I have no doubt that he will do well.

Many thanks again to all who have helped me and worked with me during my time as the Marshall County Football play-by-play announcer. Go Marshals!
