Lady Marshals fall 4-2 to Ballard Memorial in Region 1 Tournament

The Lady Marshals season came to a close with Monday’s Region 1 Tournament loss to Ballard Memorial. Seniors (L-R) Chloe Coursey, Gracelyn Darnall, Chevelle Henson and Madyson Morton played their final game in the orange and blue.

The Lady Marshals 2024 softball season came to a close on Monday following a 4-2 loss to Ballard Memorial in the Region 1 Tournament. They wrapped up a successful 24-12 season behind four senior leaders Chloe Coursey, Gracelyn Darnall, Chevelle Henson and Madyson Morton.

Ballard Memorial kicked off the scoring in the top of the first inning on a bomb over the left field fence by Trinity Williams. The Lady Marshals answered in the bottom of the inning, tying the game 1-1 on a single by Coursey that brought Morton across the plate who reached on an error.

The Lady Bombers added three more runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. The runs scoring on a wild pitch and singles by Annlee Polivick and Miley Nichols.

Two base runners on for the Lady Marshals in both the third and fifth innings were left stranded. In the third on singles by Macy McLeod and Marin Oakley and in the fifth on a walk by Trinlee Anderson and single from Morton.

In their final time at the plate, the Lady Marshals put in a last big effort to keep their season alive. Merriel Jackson led off with a single and two outs later, Emma Reynolds running for Jackson, scored on a double hit by Morton before the final out on the 4-2 loss.

Both teams collected six hits each, the Lady Marshals led by Morton with two. Allicen Harris started the first four innings, striking out three, giving up five hits and four runs. Darnall in relief, gave up one hit while striking out three.

The win went to Madyson Bohde who gave up six hits, two runs, striking out six. Nichols led the Lady Bombers with two hits.

Ballard Memorial will meet McCracken County in Tuesday’s second semi-final. McCracken County beat Hickman County 12-0 to advance. The first semi-final will be between Calloway County and Paducah Tilghman. Calloway County beat Graves County 5-4 and Paducah Tilghman topped Carlisle County 8-0 to advance.
