Robert L. Summers (R.L.) was welcomed to Heaven and ran into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, reuniting with his sons, Anthony Neal and Robert Corey, his dad, Robert Summers Jr., his mom, Loraine Winn Summers, grandparents, relatives and friends who were waiting with open arms, after passing away on Sunday morning, May 19, 2024, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paducah, Kentucky. He was 73 years old.

R.L. was born in Paducah, Kentucky on February 12, 1951, to Bob and Loraine Summers. He was the loving and proud dad of Tony (1972-1988) and Robert Corey (1975-1986). He is survived by, and was a fantastic brother to; Sue Dobbs (Richard) of Paducah, Kentucky, Dr. Chuck Summers (Bonita) of Henderson, Kentucky, Rev. Richard Summers (Lois) of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Betty Stewart (Jamie) of Paducah, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-nephew. He was also fondly known as “Gramps” to several boys and girls whom he loved dearly.

He graduated from Lone Oak High School in 1969. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve, where he served as a drill sergeant. R.L. worked with his dad in the family business, Summers Heating and Air, the railroad, as a Kentucky State Police Dispatcher, and as a deputy with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, until he had to take early retirement due to health problems. Even though life handed him many problems, he always said he lived a blessed life and served the Lord faithfully. At 8 years old, R.L.  accepted Jesus as his personal Savior on September 13, 1959, at Lone Oak Baptist Church. While attending Lone Oak Baptist, he became very active in singing in the choir, serving as a deacon, leading Royal Ambassadors, teaching Sunday School, or any other position where there was a need. For the last 30 years, he faithfully attended Oaks Church of God where his brother-in-law (more like a brother) Richard Dobbs pastored. R.L. loved Southern Gospel and Bluegrass music. He and four dear friends played music every week and blessed the nursing homes twice a month with their music. He loved his horses, University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball, and St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball. His beloved dog, Jackson, preceded him in death.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mercy Health Hospice, his many doctors over the years, and all who prayed for and dearly loved him. Praise God this is just “so long for now, see you soon, to never part again!”

Per R.L.’s request, there will be no visitation or services. The family will be holding a private burial at a later date. Please remember the good times you had with R.L. and all the blessings of knowing him. He is now having the time of his life FOREVER!
