Cora Ann Brown, 89, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at her home.
Cora was born on November 2, 1934, to the late Cullie Ray Henderson and Rose Lee Elkins Henderson. She was a devoted member at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, embodying the spirit of an A+ servant who loved the Lord with all her heart. Her faith also served as her compass, guiding her on numerous mission trips to spread love, hope, and kindness to those in need. Known for her big smile, the kindest of hearts, and patience Cora rarely ever met a stranger. Her caring nature and generosity led many people throughout her life to affectionately refer to her as “Granny Brown.”
Cora was a familiar face to many, having worked as a cashier at Walmart for numerous years.
Her warm greetings and the ever-present smile on her face made everyone’s day just a little bit brighter. Cora was also a member of the Benton Homemakers Association, where she shared her talents in sewing and quilting. She loved cooking and, for years, volunteered alongside many of her close friends at church, helping prepare for the Wednesday night meals. Some of the greatest joy in her life came from being surrounded by her family. Whether they were gathering to eat, sitting around sharing stories, or playing games while enjoying a vast amount of snacks, Cora’s heart was always full when she was with her family.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sandy Kay Rudolph of Benton, Shelia Gold (Bill) of Benton, Barbie Parr (David) of Hardin, and Anita Henson (Barry) of Benton; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Peters (Frank), Jeff Rudolph (Robin), Wm. Dale Gold, Jr. (Cheryl), Brittany Chambers (Scott), Brandi Neff (Jeb), Bridgette Passafiume (Nick), and Chelsea Free (Matt); fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Zoey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Happy” Brown; one son, Michael D. Sirls; one sister, Fannie Mae Gordon; one brother, Ray Henderson, Jr.; one infant sister, Geneva Louise Henderson; one son-in-law, Jack Rudolph; her parents, Cullie Ray Henderson and Rose Lee Henderson; and her first husband, Dale Devaughn Sirls.
