Wells and Miller advance to KHSAA State Tennis Championships in doubles

Marshall County’s doubles team of JC Wells and Delaney Miller are headed to the KHSAA State Tennis Championships. Wells and Miller advanced to the Region 1 Tournament semi-finals on Wednesday at the Larry J. Heflin Tennis Center in Lone Oak and came so close to advancing to the championship match.

Playing O’Neil and Clements from St. Mary, Wells and Miller lost set one 6-3 but rallied to tie the match, winning set two 6-4. They lost 10-5 in the tiebreaker.

Wells and Miller beat Turner and Fennell of Calloway County 6-1, 6-0 to move on to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals they beat Sloan and Sutla of Mayfield 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals.

This will be their second straight appearance in the state tennis tournament in doubles. Wells advanced to the state tournament in singles in 2022.

The doubles team of Emma Kate Whirley and Taylor Thomas lost their opening round match to Parker and Poore of McCracken County 6-0, 6-0. In singles, Theresa Kother lost 6-4, 6-2 to Shanna Beauregard of Ballard and Campbell Hill lost 6-0, 6-0 to Molly Null of Mayfield.

Elston Evans and Eli Rudd both advanced to the quarterfinals. Evans beat McClain of Graves County 6-1, 6-1 to advance. He lost the quarterfinal match to Lundberg of McCracken County 6-0. 6-0. Rudd beat Bell of Murray 1-6, 6-1, winning the deciding tiebreaker 10-7. He lost to McNeill of Paducah Tilghman 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

In doubles, Hunter Odom and Maverick Simmons lost 6-1, 6-3 to Null and Smith of Mayfield. Kiefer Siress and Lincoln Colburn lost 6-1, 6-1 to Wright and McMillan of Paducah Tilghman.

JC Wells will be making her third straight trip to the KHSAA State Tennis Championships. Wells advanced in singles in 2022 and in doubles last season.
