The Miracle League of Western Kentucky at the CFSB Field of Dreams at Mike Miller Park held Opening Ceremonies on Saturday morning to kick off their second season. The inaugural season was held in September.
Britney Moss, Marshall County Parks Department Director, opened the ceremony with welcome remarks and introduced the teams. The National Anthem was sung beautifully by Willow Ross, one of the Miracle League athletes.
The Miracle League removes the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime. The Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assistive devices while helping to prevent injuries.
Using a “buddy” system, the athletes are paired with an able-bodied peer. The Miracle League serves children and adults who suffer from any physical or mental disabilities, which causes them to be excluded, whether intentionally or not, from conventional baseball leagues.
They will play games each of the next three Saturdays in May at 9:30.
