
Thursday in Eddyville, the Marshals picked up their first win of the season 6-4 over pre-season top 10 ranked Lyon County after dropping the season-opener to McCracken County. They suffered two losses on Saturday in Greenville 10-5 to Henderson County and an 8-3 loss to Muhlenberg County to finish out the first week of the season at 1-3.
Against the Lyons, the Marshals scored all six of their runs in the final two innings after trailing 2-0. Lyon County’s two runs in the first inning on a 2-out single hit by Turner Hurst held up through five innings.
The Marshals loaded the bases in the top of the sixth on a walk by Reese Oakley, Gavin Clark single and walk by Clayton Wyatt. With two outs on the board, senior Riley Henson hit a grand slam to clear the bases and put the Marshals up 4-2.
Lyon County cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning but it was answered with a two-run top of the seventh by the Marshals. They loaded up the bases on three walks off of pitcher Drew Ritchie, scoring a run on a fourth straight walk and fly ball out hit by Kaden Merrick which sealed the 6-4 win.
At the plate, following Henson’s grand slam and four RBIs, Clark went 3-for-3 with a double and Wyatt and Merrick each batted in a run. Thomas Bagby earned the win, allowing five hits, two runs and striking out three over five innings. Jace Driver picked up the save after striking out three and giving up two hits and two runs.

Saturday against Henderson County, the Marshals wiped out the Colonels 3-0 lead with four runs in the top of the third. A walk by Maddox Cope and single from Clayton Wyatt set up the first run driven in by Reese Oakley’s single. Wyatt scored on a passed ball, Oakley scored on a wild pitch and the fourth run came across on a single by Jace Driver.
The 4-3 lead was short-lived when Henderson County added three runs in the bottom of the third and another four in the fourth. Gavin Clark reached on an error and scored the Marshals final run in the top of the fifth on a single by Thomas Bagby.
Caden Dotson earned the win for Colonels, pitching the final four innings and allowing four hits and one run. Clark took the loss, giving up three hits and three earned of six runs.

Trailing 6-0 after four innings against Muhlenberg County, the Marshals cut the lead in half with three runs in the top of the fifth but wouldn’t find home plate again. The Mustangs added two more runs in the fifth and sixth inning to earn the 8-3 win.
All three of their runs in the fifth came on two outs. Clayton Wyatt hit a one run single and Reese Oakley drove in two with a double.
Talan Cartwright pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Mustangs, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out four.

Up next for the Marshals is an away game at Graves County (4-0) on Tuesday followed by three home games over the weekend. Friday they will play Fort Zumwalt, Mo. and two games on Saturday against Community Christian Academy and Benton, Ill.
