Local pickleball players participate in River City Classic

Pickleball players (L-R) Cliff Grizzard and Jimmy Taylor won silver, Brent Thompson and Jeremy Hudgin won bronze and Jennifer Wilson and Amelia Contreras won bronze last week in Owensboro at the River City Classic.

Area pickleball players went to Owensboro, Ky. to participate in the River City Classic presented by Baird Wealth Management, March 8-10. The events were held at Merchant Centre Court on 16 indoor pickleball courts.

This was a very large tournament with 419 entries over three days playing a round robin format with some great competition. Some divisions had as many as 20 teams divided into four pools.  Divisions 3.0 through 5.0 Men’s and Women’s Doubles +50 played Friday and on Saturday 3.0 through 5.0 Men’s and Women’s Doubles any age played. All Mixed Doubles were any age playing on Sunday. There were 28 players from far Western KY who brought home six medals: 2 Silver and 4 Bronze medals.

Brent Thompson and Jeremy Hudgin – 4.0 Men’s Doubles +50
Jennifer Wilson and Amelia Contreras – 4.5 Women’s Doubles
