
Playing Heritage Christian Academy for the fourth time this season in their final regular season game, the CFS Eagles were looking for their first win over the Warriors after three tight games that ended in losses. Heritage Christian earned the sweep with Thursday’s 76-68 win.
Off to an inspired start, the Eagles ended the first quarter on a nice pass from Samuel Grigg to Daxton Kite for the final basket and a 19-11 lead.
Five straight points by Samuel Grigg opened the second quarter followed up by a basket from Elijah Grigg to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 26-11. Heritage Christian trimmed the 15 point CFS lead down to four but two straight baskets to end the half from Preston Nesshoefer and Elijah Grigg gave the Eagles a 39-31 halftime lead.
The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game. Heritage Christian outscored CFS 22-9 behind 14 points from leading scorer Jason Leek to take a 53-48 lead.
The Eagles battled back to trim the Warrior’s lead to four at 65-61 just under two minutes to play. A three pointer by Elijah Grigg made it a three point game with 42 seconds remaining but forced to foul, free throws by Heritage Christian came through for the 76-68 win.
Elijah Grigg led the Eagles with 28 points followed by a 20 point game from Samuel Grigg. Leek led Heritage Christian with 36 points.
CFS finishes the regular season with a record of 9-21. The Eagles will play Murray in the 4th District Tournament on Monday at 7:30 at Murray High.
