Marshals notch district win over CFS

With Tuesday’s 82-46 win over Christian Fellowship, Marshall County improves to 3-1 in 4th District games and are riding their longest win streak of the season of five straight. Their overall record improves to 14-4 while the Eagles drop to 6-11 and 0-4 in district games.

The Marshals scoring came from 13 different players led by Orrin Phelps with 13 points. Kyzer Phillips and Cash Henson each scored 11 points and Alex Staples had 10. The Eagles were led by Elijah Grigg with 17 and Samuel Grigg with 16 points.

Marshall County held a 27-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, led by Staples who scored all 10 of his points in the quarter including a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line.

The Marshals outscored the Eagles 22-8 in the third quarter to push their lead to 49-18 at halftime.

Threes began falling for the Eagles in the third quarter and they cut a once 40-point deficit at 69-29 down to 27 points at 69-42 after a 13-0 run. Samuel Grigg hit two three pointers and Elijah Grigg and Jakin Burnett each had one to help close the gap. The quarter ended on a long buzzer-beater by Kannon Dunn for a 72-42 Marshall County lead.

Isaac Darnall scored five of the Marshals 10 fourth quarter points and they held CFS to four to pick up the 36-point win.

It was another good night at the charity stripe for the Marshals who were 14-of-16 and currently rank seventh in the state at 76.8 percent.

Marshall County will meet Paducah Tilghman on Friday at Otis Dining Gymnasium. CFS will play Heritage Christian on Friday to open play in the KCAC Tournament.
