Judith Green Atkins, 83, of Calvert City, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
Judy was born to the late Harry Yates and Isabel Oliver Yates on October 9, 1940 in Paducah, Kentucky. She grew up in the Lone Oak community and was very active within her school and at Lone Oak Church of Christ. She later married Willis Green of Reidland and partnered with him in local church ministries throughout Western Kentucky for more than 25 years. Their partnership also grew to include leading and teaching students with disabilities in Marshall County. Judy and her husband, along with others, played a very instrumental role in helping establish a nonprofit organization which is now known as the Marshall County Exceptional Center. Being employed by the Marshall County Board of Education she worked as a teacher for the Exceptional School and loved each and every one of her students throughout the years. After her husband had passed, she continued teaching at the Exceptional School and remained very involved in many children’s programs at local churches.
Judy was a member of Benton Church of Christ. She had a love for cats and though she struggled to read sheet music at times she was also a very talented pianist, giving piano lessons throughout the years. Most importantly, Judy had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for her joy filled spirit, her light hearted jokes, and the ability to always make people laugh. She was her happiest in a room full of laughter and most of the time she was undoubtedly the reason for it. Judy taught her family and others to always see people as individuals, regardless of their circumstances, background, or personal situation. To her, everyone was important. We will miss her infectious smile and laughter, and always remember how she shared the joy of Christ with everyone in her presence.
Judith is survived by her son, Kevin Green (Jill) Of Brentwood, Tennessee; and four grandchildren, Taylor Green (Rachel), Ben Green (Audrey), Mary Kristin Green, and Gracie Green.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Green; one son, Randy Green; two brothers, Alton Yates and Oliver Yates; and her parents, Harry Yates and Isabel Oliver Yates.
