Vehicle Strikes and Kills Pedestrian

On January 13, 2024, at approximately 11:00 PM, McCracken County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Kentucky Dam Road near the intersection of Kenmar Road to the complaint of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.  Upon arrival, Deputies located a deceased male that had been struck by a vehicle.  Based upon physical evidence on the scene, deputies alerted surrounding agencies of the suspected vehicle description.

A short time later, an officer with the Benton Police Department located a vehicle matching the description with damage consistent with the collision on West Fifth Street in Benton and conducted a traffic stop.  McCracken County Deputy Sheriff’s traveled to Benton to assist.  Upon arrival, deputies found the vehicle to be a 2007 Chevrolet truck operated by Anthony E. Farmer, 66 years of age of Benton.  Upon examining the exterior of the truck, deputies observed physical evidence consistent with a recent collision.  Deputies impounded the vehicle, and Farmer was transported to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.  Detectives interviewed Farmer and he ultimately confessed to being involved in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the deceased is being held pending notification of all family members by the McCracken County Coroner’s Office.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Benton Police Department, the Kentucky State Police, the McCracken County Coroner’s Office, Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, McCracken County DES and Reidland/Farley Fire Rescue.
