Calvert City, KY (January 02, 2024) – On December 31, 2023 the Calvert City Police Department was dispatched to an address on Evergreen Street in reference to a male subject leaving his residence after a domestic dispute. It was advised that the male subject was highly intoxicated, had destroyed the inside of the residence, and had threatened to cut his wrists with a pocket knife before leaving the residence. Officers made contact with Joe Don Smith, 36, of 760 Evergreen Street, Calvert City. He was located at a property near his residence. Upon contact, it was discovered that he was manifestly under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for alcohol intoxication in a public place. The Calvert City Police Department was assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
On January 01, 2024 an officer with the Calvert City Police Department observed a vehicle travelling at what appeared to be a high rate of speed on US 62. The officer got behind the vehicle and observed what appeared to be impaired driving. After further investigation, Samatha J. Edwards, 28, of 743 Country Road, Grand Rivers was arrested for DUI 1st offense. She was also charged with possession of a controlled substance 2nd degree – drug unspecified and license to be in possession.
