
George W. Poe Jr., age 97, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center at Mercy Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
George was born in Paducah on December 19, 1926 to the late George W, Sr. and Mavis Idele Frazzell Poe. He was a member of Salt & Light Community Church. George retired from the Canteen Vending Company where he worked in management, as well as, a vending machine mechanic. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War ll, stationed on a supply ship in Japan. George loved to fish and was a man that had to stay busy at all times. He was a master of “tinkering” and enjoyed restoring trucks. George was loved and respected by his family, and will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy Sue Bell Poe of Paducah; daughter, Sharon Greeno of Paducah; son, Earl Poe of Lenoir City, Tennessee; three stepdaughters, Julie Bard of Marietta, Georgia, Beverly Marretta-Heck of Harahan, Louisiana, and Lori Lemons (Calvin) of East Prairie, Missouri; two stepsons, Sam Bard of Gardner, Kansas, and Greg Bard of East Prairie, Missouri; three grandchildren, Christina Noelle Craine, Amber Bebout, and Todd Roberts; eight step grandchildren, Casidy Baltrusaitis, Hannah Lemons, Ashley Smith, Jaime Bard, Danielle Hunter, Savannah Bard, Samantha Bard, and Sarah Marretta; four great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Poe was preceded in death by first wife, Juanita; his parents; a sister, Shirley Mullens; and one brother, Charles Poe.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, with Rev. Jeff Russell officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the service time of 12:00 P.M. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
