Dear Western Kentucky Community,
As we approach the end of the year, I want to reflect on our journey together in 2023. The relationship between Mercy Health and our community has been exceptional, and I am grateful for the mutual support and collaboration that has made this year so special. One of the cornerstones of our success has been the strong partnerships we have forged with organizations like Maple Tree Cancer Alliance, Heart USA, and Turning Point. Through these alliances, we have provided comprehensive and compassionate care to those battling cancer, illness, personal challenges, and more. Together, we have worked tirelessly to improve outcomes and enhance the quality of life for our patients. In addition to these partnerships, we have made significant strides in suicide prevention efforts. Mental health is a critical component of overall well-being, and we are committed to supporting our community in times of need. Through our Pediatric-Psych services in the ED, partnering to provide Peer Support Services for those struggling with substance use, and continuing to operate the only inpatient behavioral health service in the region, we have worked to break the stigma surrounding mental health and provide resources for those struggling with suicidal thoughts and addiction. Our commitment to community engagement has been evident through the various events we have organized throughout the year. From cancer awareness luncheons to free screenings and health fairs, we have empowered individuals with knowledge and promoted a proactive approach to health. These events have fostered a sense of togetherness and encouraged early detection and prevention of diseases. Additionally, we have installed five blessing boxes throughout the region, symbolizing our commitment to the well-being of every individual. These boxes, generously funded by the Mercy Health Foundation—Lourdes, serve as a reminder to look out for one another’s health and safety, providing essential items to those in need. Through acts of kindness and compassion, we can truly make a difference in the lives of others. I am also thrilled to share the progress on the new Mercy Health – Paducah Cancer Center. This state-of-the-art facility, opening next summer, will further enhance our ability to provide comprehensive cancer care close to home. A campaign from our Foundation continues to support this project. Generous donor support has enabled us to offer free cold cap therapy, social workers, nutritionists, physical therapy, and other specialized services for our patients. This year, we have also made many investments in technologies and talent, like the region’s most advanced 312-slice CT Scanner. We also have recruited top-notch medical professionals, like our addition of Dr. Karmo and team, funded by The Mercy Health Foundation—Lourdes, to our neonatology department. Lourdes also has a new radiologist group, Cape Radiology, which is the region-only Fellowship specialty Radiologists, which includes neuro radiologists, MSK radiologists, breast radiologists, and more. In addition, our $127 million modernization project kicked off just a few months ago. These renovations will keep our infrastructure strong for many years to come, ensuring our community can continue to access the best possible care. As we look forward to 2024, I want to make sure that Mercy Health— Lourdes Hospital remains steadfast in our commitment to the mission of Mercy Health. We will continue to prioritize the health and well-being of our community, striving for excellence in every aspect of care. Together, we will create an even brighter and healthier future for Western Kentucky. On behalf of Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital, I extend my deepest gratitude to all of you for your unwavering support and trust. It is an honor to serve this remarkable community, and I am excited for the journey ahead. We wish you a joyous holiday season and a prosperous New Year. Sincerely, Mike Yungmann |
