Kobey Yates 7th, Marshall County teams place 28th at State Cross Country Championships

Lexington’s Kentucky Horse Park was the site of this year’s KHSAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday. In Class 3A races, 558 student-athletes lined up for the final 5K of the cross country season.

Kobey Yates turned in an outstanding performance for Marshall County, placing seventh with a time of 15:52.91. The time was nearly a minute faster than his time at the Region 1 meet on October 21. Layfayette’s James Ndayishimiye won the state title with a time of 15:27.38. The top 10 boys all ran times under the 16-minute mark.

More Marshall County results include Owen Futrell, 18:42.20 (165), Walker Jones, 19:06.39 (203), Fisher Beth, 19:15.15 (208), Thatcher Newnum, 19:37.45 (230), Daniel Walker, 19:53.85 (242), Jared Gaudy, 20:28.47 (258).

Trinity (Louisville) won the state team title, Cooper finished second and St. Xavier was third. The Marshall County boys team finished 28th.

Addison Lyles turned in the top performance for the girls’ team, placing 68th with a time of 21:08.35. The individual title went to Addison Moore of Woodford who ran a time of 18:12.41.

The girls’ results included Ava Sutherland, 22:42.29 (164), Jessica Reed, 23:14.92 (185), Delilah Evans, 23:17.88 (188), Laney Yates, 24:14.07 (235), Ava Moore, 25:05.33 (251).

Assumption won the team state title followed by Oldham County in second and Dupont Manual in third. Marshall County’s girls team placed 28th.
