
Race #4 of the 2023 Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League season took place on Sunday, Oct. 8 on the Highlander Trail at Barren River Lake in Austin, Ky. The State Championship and season finale will take place on October 22 at England Idlewild Park in Burlington, Ky.
Three members of the Marshall County team earned first place finishes at Barren River Lake on Sunday. Eli Rudd won the boys Varsity race, Brady Atkins took first in the boys JV race and Amelia Miller won the girls 8th Grade race.
More podium finishes came from Claire Austin with second in the girls Varsity race, Emma Roberts placed second in the girls JV race and Addison Roberts took third in the girls Sophomore race.
Riders placing in the top five included Nathan Downs with fifth place in the 8th Grade boy’s race, the largest group of the day with 32. Hudson Atkins took fifth in the 6th Grade boy’s race and Molly Morris was fifth in the 6th Grade girl’s race.
The Marshall County team took second at Barren River Lake, just one point behind first place Nothern Kentucky Roots Composite. Northern Kentucky holds first place in the overall series and Marshall County is in second.
The McCracken County team is currently in sixth place overall and Livingston County Composite is in 12th.
