Marshals will play for 2nd District title

Logan Parker scored the Marshals first goal of the game on this header in Tuesday’s 5-1 district semi-final win over Mayfield.

Marshall County met Mayfield in the 2nd District semi-finals on Tuesday at Colburn Field. Mayfield advanced after Monday’s 3-2 win over Graves County. The Marshals beat the Cardinals 5-1 to advance to Thursday’s championship game and will be eyeing their sixth straight district title.

The first goal was scored 13 minutes in when Zander Maxlow set up Logan Parker for a header that found the top right corner of the net. Less than six minutes later, Lincoln Colburn scored off an assist by Maxlow to make it a 2-0 game. Houston Johnson scored just before halftime to give the Marshals a 3-0 lead.

Two more goals in the second half put the Marshals up 5-0. Maxlow scored on an assist by Parker and Parker assisted again on a goal by Dalton Warmath.

Mayfield avoided the shutout on a goal by Gustavo Angel-Ixcoy.

Goalkeeper Steven Claborn had one save while the Marshals had 15 shots on goal keeping Mayfield’s goalkeeper Alex Ajanel busy with 10 saves.

The Marshals will play the winner of Wednesday’s Murray vs. Calloway County game in Thursday’s title game.
