Before Friday’s first home game of the 2023 season, the 1998 Marshall County team and cheerleaders were recognized for their outstanding season under Head Coach Jim Shelton on the 25th Anniversary of that season. They finished with a record of 11-2, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the KHSAA Class 4A state playoffs.
The 1998 team established program records that still stand today for most wins in a season with 11, and for the longest winning streak at 10. The 1998 team was also the first Marshall County team to win a varsity game over Paducah Tilghman. The 1998 Marshals won the 4A, District 1 Championship in thrilling fashion, defeating Henderson County 42-41 in triple overtime and finished the regular season ranked in the Top 5 in Kentucky in Class 4A.
The 1998 team beat Shelby County 48-24 in the first round of the state playoffs. They followed that up with a 10-7 win over North Hardin before falling in the quarterfinals 21-7 to Nelson County.
