Nearly 200 high school mountain bikers from across the state competed in Race #2 of the Kentucky Interscholastic Cycling League on Sunday here in Marshall County at the Bo Beckett Memorial Trail (BBMT) located at Kentucky Dam State Resort Park.
The Marshall County team placed nine riders on the awards podium from the 6th Grade race through Varsity, but just completing the nearly five-mile loop and shorter middle school loop for many divisions multiple times, was a win for the individual riders.
Starting with the Varsity division earning podium spots for Marshall County was Claire Austin in third place. In the JV races, Eli Rudd took first and Owen Lepisto second for the boys. Emma Roberts placed second in the girls JV race. Marshall County swept the Sophomore races with Brady Atkins and Addison Roberts both taking wins.
Middle School podiums were earned by Amelia Miller who placed second in the 8th Grade race and Nathan Downs with third. Rounding out podiums for the Middle School, Hudson Atkins placed third in the 6th Grade race.
The Northern Kentucky Roots Composite team won Race #2 by a mere nine points over Marshall County and they maintain the overall race series lead. Local teams McCracken County placed seventh and Livingston County was 12th.
Race #3 takes place in Elizabethtown on September 24 at the Buffalo Lake Trail.
