Lady Marshals volleyball earns first win over Ballard Memorial

The Lady Marshals celebrate a point against Ballard Memorial in Thursday’s 3-set to one win.

After an 0-3 start to the 2023 season, the Lady Marshals volleyball teamed picked up their first win on Tuesday at home over Ballard Memorial 3-1 in four close competitive sets. They fell just short of their first win on Tuesday when they lost in a five-set match to Community Christian Academy 25-11, 24-26, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13.

The Lady Marshals won the first and second sets 25-18 and 25-18. The Lady Bombers took set three 19-25 to extend the match but an exciting fourth set went to the Lady Marshals 27-25.

Sarah Bremmerkamp had a big night at the net with 24 kills, Abby Belcher had seven and Leigha McVickers had five. Ayla Holt led with 33 assists in the win. Leading in digs was Maleah Terry with 23 followed by Bremmerkamp with 20, Holt had 18 and Hadley Barrett 17. Kylie Merrick led in service aces with six.

Hala Ouderkirk led Ballard Memorial in kills with 11, Kenna Bodell had 20 assists and in digs, Maria Artigas had 52 and Allison Enfinger 43.

In Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to CCA, Bremmerkamp led in kills with 22 and also in digs with 23. Holt had 26 assists and 12 digs. Terry had 19 digs and Barrett had 17.

The Lady Marshals will host Christian Fellowship on Monday in a freshman/JV/varsity match that gets underway at 5:00. The Lady Eagles are 1-0 with a 3-1 district win over Murray on Tuesday.
