Marshals battle top teams Trinity (Louisville) and Bowling Green

Marshall County senior goalkeeper, Steven Claborn, had eight saves against Trinity (Louisville) Friday night and four in the game against Bowling Green on Saturday.

Following a tough district battle on Thursday evening against Calloway County, the Marshals faced state powerhouse Trinity (Louisville) on Friday and followed that up with their third game in less than 48 hours against another of the state’s top teams in Bowling Green.

Friday’s match was the first ever between the Marshals and the multi state champion Trinity Shamrocks.

Trinity’s Ben Beauerle scored with nine minutes remaining in the first half to give the Shamrocks a 1-0 halftime lead. Trinity had five shots in the first half with four on goal while the Marshals had three shots with two on goal.

Trinity was set up to take a two-goal lead after a hand ball was called on the Marshals in the box, but the penalty kick taken by Grayson Travis was denied on a great save by Steven Claborn.

Just when it looked like the 1-0 Trinity lead was going to hold up until the final whistle, the Shamrocks added a second goal in the closing minute of the game for the 2-0 win.

On Saturday, Trinity played a morning game against Bowling Green and won 3-0. Bowling Green then played the Marshals later in the day and won 3-0.

Bowling Green goals came from Aison Manivong with two and Wasco Shindano had one.

Tuesday evening, the Marshals (3-3) will host Murray (6-1) in another district battle. Murray’s undefeated season so far ended on Saturday with a 3-2 loss to Daviess County.
