Lady Marshals shutout district foe Calloway County 3-0

Marshall County’s Chaney Green and Calloway County’s Lexi McClure compete for a header in Thursday’s district game and home opener at Colburn Field.

The Lady Marshals played Calloway County in Thursday’s home opener at Colburn Field and they beat the Lady Lakers 3-0. Since the 2001 season, the Lady Marshals have only lost twice to Calloway County. The win gives them an early season 3-0 record in district games after wins over Mayfield and Graves County and they improve their overall record to 3-1-1.

A 2-0 lead at halftime was courtesy of goals by sophomore Chaney Green. The first came 13 minutes into the game and the second on a header with an assist going to Amelia Boone.

Looking like neither team would find the net in the second half, senior Presley Gallimore scored her seventh goal of the season in the final moments of the game to give the Lady Marshals the 3-0 shutout.

The Lady Marshals will be back at Colburn Field on Saturday to play Henderson County (2-1). The JV game gets underway at 4:00 followed by the varsity.
