Marshals top field to win Marshall County Invitational

D.J. Morris tees off on hole #5 in Tuesday’s Marshall County Invitational at Calvert City Country Club. Morris shot 73 to help lead the Marshals to the team win.

Leading a field of 18 teams, the Marshals shot 302 to win the Marshall County Invitational on Tuesday at Calvert City Country Club. They won by three strokes over Bowling Green who finished second with a team score of 305. D.J. Morris and Ryan Stokes led the Marshals, both shooting 1-over rounds of 73. Also scoring for the Marshals was Paxton Carter with 74, Andy Jones shot 82 and Nolan Hurst shot 91.

It took a 3-hole playoff to determine the individual winner. Grant Broughton of Daviess County and Jacob Lang from Greenwood each finished with 2-under 70’s and on the third playoff hole, Broughton pulled out the win.

Tied at third with scores of 72 was Madisonville-North Hopkins player Austin Crick and Landon Hunt and Cannon Ford, both of McCracken County. Morris and Stokes finished in a 5-way tie for sixth place with Peyton Toon of Paducah Tilghman, Bowling Green’s Reed Richey and Eli Stamper of Allen County-Scottsville all with 73. Carter tied for seventh along with Travis Perry of Lyon County with rounds of 74.

Ryan Stokes on the fifth hole tee box, shot a 1-over par 73 at the Marshall County Invitational to lead the Marshals to a 3-stroke win on Tuesday over Bowling Green.
