PADUCAH, KY (July 7, 2023) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates ongoing work zone construction and maintenance activities at the following locations will impact traffic the week of July 9-15. More detailed information on each of these work zones and maps of these locations can be found on our Facebook page listed below.
Purchase Parkway Full Closure of KY 339 Wingo Exit 14 starts July 10 (NEW)
Starting at 6:30 a.m., Monday, July 10, all ramps at the KY 339 Wingo Exit 14 interchange will close for up to 90 days. Message boards provide detour info. Additionally, work zone lane restrictions are up at several locations along the Purchase Pkwy from about the 15 to 17.5mm for upgrades to allow I-69 to be extended along the parkway. There is a 55 mph work zone speed limit with an enhanced police presence where construction crews are present. The target completion date for all work on the project is December 15, 2024.
I-24 Paducah Exit 3 WESTBOUND Ramp Closure starts July 10 (NEW)
The westbound exit and entry ramps at I-24 Paducah Exit 3 will close at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 10, and remain closed for up to two weeks. Motorists may detour via U.S. 60 Exit 4, and KY 998/Olivet Church Road. Otherwise, traffic flow along KY 305/Cairo Rd through the interchange is near-normal. No U-TURNS are allowed in this work zone All businesses around the Exit 3 interchange have full access. Target completion date extended to July 31.
U.S. 60 East of Marion in Crittenden County (NEW)
Be alert for milling and paving along a section of U.S. 60/Sturgis Road east of Marion in Crittenden County starting on Thursday, July 13. This work zone runs from the 10 mile marker just east of the Fords Ferry Road intersection at Marion, extending northeastward through the Mattoon community to the KY 365 intersection at mile point 17.254, a distance of just over 7.2 miles. The target completion date is Aug. 3, 2023.
U.S. 60 Cumberland River Bridge in Livingston County (UPDATED)
The New U.S. 60 Cumberland River Bridge at Smithland will be restricted to one lane on Wednesday & Thursday, July 12 & 13, for a first detailed inspection of the new bridge structure. Due to the 40 ft. wide deck on the new bridge there will be no load width restriction in this work zone.
I-24 from 34mm to 55mm in Lyon County (UPDATED)
Be alert for a brush cutting crew working along I-24 in Lyon County. While much of the work can be completed along right-of-way without lane restrictions, this work zone will be active from 7 a.m., to 2 p.m., CDT, each day that weather permits. Much of the brush cutting will focus on Exit 40, Exit 42 and Exit 45. This daytime work is expected to continue to about August 1.
KY 348/Symsonia Hwy Paving Marshall County (NEW)
Be alert for milling and paving along a section of KY 348/Symsonia Highway between Benton and Symsonia in Marshall County starting Tuesday, July 11. This work zone runs from J.B. Copeland Road at the 3mm extending eastward to KY 1558/Ivey Road the 6.74mm, a distance of about 3.7 miles. Target completion is July 26.
KY 994/Old Mayfield Rd in Paducah (UPDATED)
The closure of KY 994/Old Mayfield Road between Division Street and U.S. 60/Irvin Cobb Drive/South 21st Street in Paducah will continue until about July 14. This section of KY 994/Old Mayfield Road includes intersections with Alabama Street, Quarles Avenue, South 25th Street, and Chester Hack Drive. The contractor is attempting to keep side street connections open as often as possible for emergency vehicle access. Local residents should be aware connecting points around the work zone may change from time to time.
KY 402/Aurora Hwy at 9.7mm in Marshall County (UPDATED)
A work zone on KY 402/Aurora Highway in Marshall County at mile point 9.7 to allow a bridge deck overlay and maintenance project has been removed. Work is completed at this site.
KY 962/Old Olive Rd Extended Closure in Marshall County
KY 962/Old Olive Road is closed at mile point 1.26 to allow the Lovette Branch Culvert to be replaced. This is along KY 962 between Henry Gordon Lane and Utley Cemetery Road. There is no marked detour. Due to limited optional routes, this site requires an extended detour. Motorists should make advanced alternate travel plans. The target completion date is July 21, 2023.
KY 1286/N. Friendship Road Extended Closure in McCracken County
A section of KY 1286/North Friendship Road in the Lone Oak area is closed until late fall. Local access is maintained for businesses and homes. However, due to excavations, no through-traffic will be allowed. Motorists may use the Connector Road between U.S. 45 and U.S. 62 at I-24 Exit 7 as a self-detour. This section of KY 1286/North Friendship Rd between U.S. 45 and U.S. 62 will remain closed until late fall. KYTC engineers have adjusted the timing at traffic signals along detour routes to accommodate the extra traffic load.
KY 129/East State Line Road in the City of Fulton
KY 129/East State Line Road is closed at mile point 0.65 in Fulton after a contract inspection team reported a number of structural issues with a bridge over an unnamed tributary to Harris Fork Creek. This closure is along KY 129/East State Line Road immediately east of the Cleveland Avenue intersection. KYTC District 1 engineers are developing a repair plan. Updates as they become available.
KY 129 in Southern Graves County
Be alert for a work zone along KY 129 from the KY 94 intersection at mile point 8.735, extending northward through the KY 2422 intersection to KY 339 at mile point 15.4, a distance of 6.67 miles. Due to narrow pavement, this work zone has an 8 ft. load width restriction. Motorists should be alert for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers at various locations. November 15 is the target completion date.
U.S. 641 in Southern Calloway County
Construction of the New U.S. 641 from the Clarks River Bridge at the south edge of Murray to the KY-TN State Line at Hazel continues. Construction on this 6 mile new terrain section of 4-lane will have minimal impact on existing U.S. 641. The main impact is on side roads that run through the construction corridor. Motorists are reminded to avoid driving around or moving construction barricades. Target completion date is late summer of 2023.
U.S. 641 Public Meeting in Fredonia on Tuesday, July 11
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has scheduled a public information meeting to update area residents on final plans for the reconstruction of U.S. 641 from U.S. 62 at Eddyville to the Caldwell-Crittenden County Line at Fredonia. The public meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., CDT, at the Fredonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church Activities Building at 303 Cassidy Avenue in Fredonia on Tuesday, July 11. The open house format allows attendees to come and go at their convenience to view various exhibits, talk to KYTC representatives, ask questions about the project, and provide feedback to the U.S. 641 Connect design team.
