Jane Lee Osterhout went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early hours of June 16, 2023 after His first visit three days prior. She was born in 1948 to Leroy and Mary Stalions.
She grew up and spent most of her life in West Frankfort Illinois. After graduating High School she continued her education at VTI-SIU. She was a member of the Jr. Women’s Club for many years. She served as chairperson for the downtown window painting, was on the committee for the Old King Coal parade and festival, and was the chairperson for the children and pet parade in the 1980’s. She was a volunteer at the Blast of the Past. On the Board of Directors for Volunteer Services in West Frankfort for 7 years.
Her greatest love was God and Jesus Christ. Her children were her next great love. She is most known for her strength and dedication to caring for her son David, whom has had Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy since his birth. Her third love was her country, service members and first responders and she never missed an opportunity to tell them thank you. She also loved taking food to her local fire and police departments and getting to visit them. In her last months she made sure she had on one of her fire department shirts as she found such pride in wearing them.
Among her home state of Illinois, she had the opportunity to live in Colorado, Texas, California, and the Philippines where she saw the first P.O.W’s released during the Vietnam War
Jane was a strong woman and tackled all obstacles in her life knowing God would give her strength and that He would see her through; this held true when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and later as also having ALS in July of 2022.
Her daughter Stephanie became caregiver to her and David making sure that their days were filled with love and making memories. She greatly missed the ability to work in her yard as she had done since a small child making a garden in her parent’s yard, caring for God’s creation, dancing, and singing. She continued to enjoy getting to go to the park and as a family feeding the birds. She is survived by her children Stephanie Osterhout, David Osterhout and Natalie Smith, sisters Rosemary (Daniel) Weakly and Kathleen (Tom) Benedik. Her best-friend of seventy years, Peggy Peeler Moschino. Five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, and all those she impacted in life that hold a piece of her in their hearts.
