On Saturday June 17, 2023, a deputy with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle speeding on Old US Highway 45. The deputy activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the operator fled from the deputy.
The operator, later found to be Johnny Day, fled from the Deputy on several roads in southern McCracken County and Graves County. Day’s vehicle ultimately began to catch fire after fleeing down a dirt road and then back onto paved roads.
Day, 46 years old of Lone Oak, was arrested and charged with several offenses including Speeding, Operating on a Suspended or Revoked Operator’s License, Failure of Owner to Maintain Insurance, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle). He was lodged in the McCracken County Jail.
Day was previously arrested in April by the MCSO for traffic offenses, Driving on a DUI Suspended License, and Possession of Methamphetamine.
