
The Area 1 Championship was held on Saturday at McCracken County High School with 21 teams in attendance. Three Area 1 titles were won by members of the Lady Marshals team. Addison Lyles took first in the 3200 meters (11:53.17), Rylee Thompson won long jump (16-05.75) and Georgia Hall placed first in discus (104-08).
More top performances from the girls’ team came from Thompson who also placed second in the triple jump (35-00) and Bailey Allred took second in shot (31-05.50). A couple of third place finishes were earned by Jessica Reed in the 800 meters (2:31.40) and Izzy Washburn in pole vault (8-00).
It was also a good day for the boy’s squad with six top three performances. Two second place finishes were recorded by Ethan McCarty in the 800 meters (2:04.17) and Alexander Holman in the long jump (19-03).
Taking third place was Aiden Dunigan in the long jump (19-02.75) and Deegan Croley in discus (129-08). Croley set the new Freshmen Hall of Fame record for the Marshall County program in both discus and shot put (42.10) in which he placed fifth.
The 4 x 100 relay team of Tyler Orlandi, Zander Maxlow, Isaac Hodges and Cade Sorrells took third with a time of 43.95. They ran the second fastest 4 x 100 in school history and is one of only two teams to break the 44-mark barrier.
The 4 x 400 relay team consisting of Cade Sorrells, Ethan McCarty, Isaac Hodges and Zander Maxlow also placed third in 3:32.33.
Of note, Tyler Orlandi was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.65 which is the third best time in school history behind Scott Bacon and Cade Flatt.
The boys team finished second behind McCracken County and the girls team placed fourth with Calloway County taking the win.
