Van Buren “Buddy” Russell, age 88, of Gilbertsville passed away at his home on Monday, May 1, 2023. He was born on November 17, 1934 in Etowah, Arkansas to the late Adron and Venola Russell.
Van was an avid gardener, fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and adored his three children and six grandchildren. He was a proud American and served his country as a member of ROTC in high school and enlisting later in the Army.
Van enjoyed hunting, supporting his grandchildren in their endeavors, watching FoxNews as loud as the television would go, and reminiscing on playing basketball with Johnny Cash.
He is survived by one son, David Russell, one daughter, Susan Brunson (Scott), six grandchildren, Russell Jones, Aaron Cotton (Ameroy), Taylor Wisdom (Jodie), Erika Devore (Jake) Stephanie Russell, and Andrea Russell. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his friend, Rosemary Litchfield, whom he adored.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Barbara, and daughter, Debbie Russell Wisdom.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Mercy Health Hospice for the love and care they showed Van and the family, as well as the support they have given over the last weeks.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
