Full schedule of matches as tennis team heads toward post-season

Marshall County’s tennis teams are close to wrapping up a busy month. Since March 30, they have played eight opponents and the boys’ team has won five of those matches while the girls picked up two wins against great competition. As the season winds down, the focus will turn to the regional tournament.

On March 30, the boys blanked St. Mary 7-0 earning wins in singles from Jameson Wells, Elston Evans, Alex Dinas, Eli Rudd, Maverick Simmons and Hunter Odom. Evans and Rudd won their doubles match.

The girls team beat St. Mary 5-4, two of the wins coming by forfeit. Wins in singles play were from J.C. Wells (8-3) and Taylor Thomas (8-3) and Wells and Delaney Miller won their double match 8-1.

On April 10, the teams played Murray High. In the boys 7-2 win, five singles matches were won by Wells (8-3), Evans (8-5), Dinas (8-6), Simmons (8-3) and Odom (8-4). Two wins in doubles came from the teams Evans/Rudd (8-2) and Simmons/Odom (8-6).

The girls lost their close match against Murray 4-5. Wells (8-5) and Miller (8-3) both won their singles matches. The two doubles match wins were from Wells/Miller (8-4) and Faith Eutsler/Thomas (8-6).

The team took on regional powerhouse, Paducah Tilghman, on April 11. The boys lost 1-8, getting an 8-6 win from Simmons in singles. Simmons and Odom played a close doubles match but ultimately lost 6-8.

The girls fell to Paducah Tilghman 0-9. Wells played a close match against Abby Brown before losing 6-8 and the doubles match of Wells and Miller played well in a 4-8 loss as did the doubles team of Eutsler and Thomas who also lost 4-8.

Both teams earned wins on April 13 against Lyon County. The boys won 7-2, picking up wins in singles by Wells (8-0), Evans (8-3), Rudd (8-0), Simmons (8-0) and Odom (8-0). Wells/Dinas lost their doubles match in a tiebreaker 8-8 (2-10) and wins came from Evans/Rudd (8-3) and Simmons/Odom (8-4).

The girls won their Lyon County match 5-4. Winning in singles was Wells (8-4), Emma Kate Whirley (8-5), Eutsler (8-2) and Thomas (8-1). Wells and Miller won their doubles match 8-1.

The team faced another powerhouse in McCracken County on April 18. The boys team lost 1-8, Odom picking up an 8-0 win over Daniel Lundburg. Simmons lost a close one to Manav Shah 6-8. Simmons and Odom played a very competitive doubles match against Ansh Shah and Holder Hagan before falling 7-9.

The girls lost 0-8 to McCracken County but Wells and Miller played a good match against Cassidy Parker and Alex Poore in a 4-8 loss. Wells won two games against Parker in singles play.

On April 20, the boys won 6-3 over Graves County. Evans (8-0), Dinas (8-2), Simmons (9-8/7-2) and Odom (8-6) all won in singles play. Wins in doubles came from Wells/Dinas (8-2) and Simmons/Odom (8-2). The team of Evans/Rudd lost their match 7-9.

Two wins from the girls in their 2-7 loss to Graves County came from Well (8-1) in singles and Wells/Miller (8-3) in doubles.

Against Calloway County on Monday, April 24, the boys team fell 2-7 with both wins coming in doubles. Wells/Dinas (8-2) over Jude Bazzell/Colt Bazzell and Simmons/Odom (7-4) over Bo Stom/Canaan Bazzell.

The girls picked up three wins in nine matches against Calloway County. Two wins in singles by Wells (8-0) and Miller (8-4) and the two teamed up for an 8-1 win in doubles.

Tuesday’s match was against Mayfield and the boys’ team won 7-2 with three wins coming by forfeits. Evans (8-1) and Rudd (8-6) won their singles matches. Two wins in doubles came from Wells/Dinas (8-5) and Evans/Rudd (8-4).

The girls fell to Mayfield 1-8 with Miller picking up an 8-4 win in singles. Wells lost her singles match to Molly Null 5-8. Wells and Miller played a good doubles match against Null and Jo Sutla before losing 3-8.
