FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 26, 2023) – During National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Attorney General Cameron’s Office of Victims Advocacy (OVA) held an Elevate Survivor Voices Awareness and Resource Fair. The event was dedicated to elevating survivor voices and engaging survivors in order to effect change.
This awareness and resource fair was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Office for Victims of Crime (OVC). OVA was competitively awarded the grant to promote community awareness of crime victims’ rights.
“During Crime Victims’ Rights Week, we renew our commitment to supporting crime victims and improving the systems that serve them,” said Attorney General Cameron. “I’m grateful to Robyn Diez d’Aux for her leadership in serving crime victims and appreciate the survivors and organizations who joined us today.”
The OVA is committed to assisting crime victims and their families, improving victim-centered, trauma-informed investigation and prosecution, and strengthening victim service systems.
Last fall, OVA provided forensic genetic genealogy training to 60 prosecutors to assist in the investigation of cold cases, and hosted training for multi-disciplinary teams to aid them in prosecuting cases involving domestic violence. In March, OVA offered training to law enforcement to demonstrate trauma-informed interviewing skills.
“Informing crime victims of their rights and improving the systems that serve victims is a top priority for the Office of Victims Advocacy,” said Executive Director of the Office of Victims Advocacy Robyn Diez d’Aux. “We are thankful for the many organizations in the Commonwealth that serve victims and are proud to partner with them to assist survivors and their families as they recover from the trauma of crime.”
