“We sing and play our gospel songs. We do the best we can. We do it for the Lord and mom, our #1 fan” this is from a poem written by our mother Carol about her mom. Carol Jane Shepherd was a St. Patty’s Day baby, born Saturday, March 17, 1951 in Dover, TN. She was the daughter of the late Vernon Dale Gamble and the late Mary Elizabeth (Wofford) Gamble. Mom was always lucky from the start in her life, she was only one of seven children. I know sometimes there were struggles, but I also know they were all well provided for. They all had sandals they got to wear when they walked up hill both ways to school in the snow, well except Gail, I think hers broke. There are plenty of interesting stories when you talked about Myra, Vyra, Gail, Carol, Mona, Tommy and Ricky.
Mom met our daddy and had two amazing daughters, Amanda Shumaker (WH) and Paula Stamps (Keith). She was also blessed with three grandchildren, Alexis Holmes, Jonathan Shumaker and Gabriel Stamps; and three great grandchildren, Bentley Holmes, Grace Holmes and Liam Holmes,
Mom and her family traveled and sang gospel music our entire lives. On April 14,2023
she went to meet Jesus. She is no more in pain and is rejoicing in the arms of the lord. What a family reunion in heaven they are all singing and waiting for the family circle to all get home.
A Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Collier Funeral Home, located at 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY 42025 with the Rev. Johnny Coffenberry officiating.
Entombment will be in Marshall Co. Memory Gardens, Benton, KY.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Collier Funeral Home.
