Maury Dodson, age 86, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Dodson was born in Foss, Oklahoma on August 17, 1936 to the late George and Leone Dodson. He was a long-time business owner, who started Dodson’s Gift Shop in Paducah and owned and operated four franchises of Jackson Hewitt Tax Services in Florida before retiring. Maury was a member of First Baptist Church Calvert City, where he served as Treasurer, and had recently returned to First Baptist Paducah. He served as a Deacon at First Baptist Paducah and was instrumental in helping to build and fundraise for the Christian Outreach Center. Maury and his wife, Karen, also started a Singles Sunday School class which eventually grew to over 200 members. He loved the church and was a very strong Christian. Maury also had a passion for woodworking and loved to fish, read and travel.
Maury is survived by his wife of 64 years, Karen Wilson Dodson; his daughter, Tracey Dodson Buchanan (Kent) of Paducah; his son, Dr. James Dodson (Mary Ann) of Clarksville, Tennessee; one brother, Schuyler Dodson (Carolyn) of Benton; three grandchildren, Benjamin Dodson Buchanan (Amy), Brent Joseph Buchanan (Keighlee) and Hannah Bryn Dodson; and seven grandchildren, George Buchanan, Lyla Mac Buchanan, Owen Buchanan, Gabby Buchanan, Henry Buchanan, Noah Buchanan and Georgia Buchanan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Lois Pickens, Lynne Bahn, Sue O’Donald, Eileen Dragon and Anne Trower; and one brother, George Dodson.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Jim Ewing officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the 12:00 pm service time of Friday, March 31, 2023 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
