James “Jimmy” McPherson, age 86, of Arlington, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bardwell.
Jimmy was born in Burkley, Kentucky on June 7, 1936 to the late James and Lela Perry McPherson. He was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church. Jimmy graduated from Arlington High School before enlisting in the United States Army. Following his service to his country, Jimmy went on to attend college at Murray State University. He then began his career working with the Farm Service Agency where he retired in 1996 as the District Director over many counties that he served for over 35 years. Jimmy loved farming and also loved the outdoors where we spent much of his free time hunting and fishing. His passion for the outdoors and his local community led him to serve on many committees and boards. These included the Governors Economic Development Commission, The Carlisle County Board of Education, Honorary Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, member of the Lower Mississippi River Delta Commission for Kentucky, the Carlisle County Industrial Board, the Citizens Committee for a Doctor for Arlington and the National Association of District Directors for the Southeast. Jimmy also won the Conservation Service Award from Ducks Unlimited. Whenever he was able, Jimmy enjoyed being out in the fields, quail hunting or traveling, particularly to South Dakota to Pheasant hunt with longtime friends. The only thing he loved more than the outdoors were his family, friends, especially his grandchildren.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Jaime (Gerry) Jackson of Arlington; two grandchildren, Parker and Peyton Jackson; and his significant other, Bernadette Stansbury.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Charlene Crews McPherson; two brothers, Juitt and Walter McPherson; and his parents.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Burkley Cemetery with Rev. Aaron Dowdy officiating. Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 and from 9:00 am until 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the funeral home.
