Marshals fall to Paducah Tilghman 70-65

Marshall County and Paducah Tilghman boys tipped off in their second game of the season on Saturday in Paducah. A game very much like the first one that Paducah Tilghman won 66-59, the Marshals saw a first half lead slowly fade away and suffered their fifth straight loss to the Blue Tornado by a final score of 70-65.

The Marshals took the lead from the opening tip on a basket by Hunter Wallace and led by as many as seven in the quarter at 14-7 before a 5-0 run by Paducah Tilghman cut the lead down to two and the Marshals held onto a 16-14 lead at the end of the quarter.

Tommy Robertson scored the first five points of the second quarter followed by a basket from Wallace that gave the Marshals their largest lead at 25-16. Paducah Tilghman scored the next five points to cut the lead down to four points and two straight three-pointers by Jayvion Powell tied the game at 27-27. Paducah Tilghman outscored the Marshals by 10 in the second quarter to lead by six at halftime at 36-30.

A technical foul on Powell was accessed to start the second half, sending Wallace to the line for the Marshals and he hit both to cut the lead down to four. A three-pointer by Trey Wall cut the Paducah Tilghman lead to 36-35. Both teams put up 13 points in the quarter keeping the deficit for the Marshals at six points, trailing 49-43 with Wade Moore and Trey Wall spending time on the bench with three fouls each.

The Marshals would cut it to three points four times in the fourth quarter but the Blue Tornado always with an answer on the other end and they finished out the game 11-of-14 at the free throw line to pull out the five-point win.

Logan Parker scored 13 points to lead four Marshals in double figures. Powell and Mian Shaw each with 16 points for Paducah Tilghman. Both teams are now 18-7.

The Marshals will play two important district games this week, Tuesday at Murray and Friday at home against Calloway County.
