
The Marshals improve to 12-3 following Friday’s 67-42 win over Hopkins County Central. They were led in the win by Alex Staples with 13 points. Staples is currently the leading scorer with an average of 12 points per game coming into Friday’s game in Hopkinsville.
Two 3-pointers from Hopkins County Central gave the Storm a quick 6-0 lead but the Marshals followed with an 8-0 run on free throws by Staples and two 3-pointers from Staples and Trey Wall and never trailed again. They finished out the first quarter with a 17-10 lead.
They outscored Hopkins County Central 20-10 in the second quarter to lead 37-20 at halftime led by 11 first half points from Staples. Eight different players contributed to the 20-point second quarter for the Marshals.
The lead stretched to 24 points at the end of the third quarter behind a couple of 3-pointers from Hunter Wallace and Logan Parker.
Following two straight buckets by Orrin Phelps, back on the floor after sitting out a few games with an injury, the Marshals stretched their lead out to 28 points at 62-34 on their way to the 67-42 win.
A big test awaits the Marshals next week when they host undefeated McCracken County (13-0) on Tuesday and Graves County (5-10) on Friday. The Mustangs are the last undefeated team left in the state. The Marshals lost 48-44 to the Mustangs on Dec. 16.
