PRESS RELEASE
It is with great joy and excitement that I announce that the Marshall County Exceptional Center is the proud owner of a brand-new Ford E-450 minibus with wheelchair lift. This vehicle is so much more than just a minibus, it represents opportunities, accessibility, equality, and inclusion.
On December 16th, 2019, MCEC’s previous handicap accessible van was totaled in an accident. This resulted in MCEC no longer having any vehicles in its fleet which were accessible to those with mobility issues. This also reduced the number of clients which we could transport to community locations and events. With the COVID-19 pandemic and vehicle price increases, the insurance funds were insufficient to purchase even a used accessible vehicle. On December 16th, 2022, exactly 3 years to the day, MCEC signed the papers of ownership for our new minibus.
Funds for the new minibus came from various grants, donors, and organizations, of which we cannot thank enough. My sincerest gratitude goes to TV A and Benton Electric System, the Ray & Kay Charitable Trust, the Joe Tom Haltom Trust, and an anonymous grant foundation for enabling this dream to become a reality. Without the support of these organizations, we could not continue to offer open enrollment to those who need us most. Thank you again for enabling MCEC to change lives!
Sincerely,
Lindsey Walker, M.ED,IDP
