
McCracken County’s Lady Mustangs are the current #2 ranked team in the state according to KHSAA RPI rankings and many of the reasons why were on display Friday in Paducah when they rolled to a 69-27 victory over the Lady Marshals. With the win, the Lady Mustangs improve to 9-0 and the Lady Marshals drop to 3-4.
The Lady Mustangs led 30-9 at the end of the first quarter, coming up with turnovers that resulted in points on many of the possessions. Scoring came from two players with 10 points each, Destiny Thomas and Mikee Buchanan. After trailing 10-0, Georgia Hall put the Lady Marshals on the board and finished the quarter with four points.
Behind 15 points each in the first half from Buchanan and Claire Johnson, the Lady Mustangs built a 51-17 lead at halftime and extended it to 67-25 at the end of the third quarter and with a running clock, Clara Boddy scored the final basket of the night for the Lady Marshals in the 42-point loss.
McCracken County was led by the First Region pre-season #1 and #2 ranked players. Thomas finished with 22 points and Johnson had 17. Chevelle Henson led the Lady Marshals with 10 points, Hall finished with eight.
The Lady Marshals will host Goreville, Ill. in a 1:00 game on Saturday.
