
Jean Dotson Johnson, 89 of Hickman, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Baptist Health in Union City, TN.
She was born in Trigg County, Kentucky on December 8, 1932. The seventh child of Jesse James Gillihan and Cora Alveena Ahart Gillihan.
She was a longtime member of Hickman First Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday school class and was pianist and organist in all church activities. She was playing her grandmother’s old pump organ before her feet could reach the pedals at Rosebower Baptist Church in Reidland, Kentucky. She was so very thankful for her God given musical abilities.
Her first job was at the former Polynesian Arts lamp factory. She then went to work at Curlee Clothing Company for several years, then on to work at Prescription Center drug store, all of these in Mayfield, Kentucky. She also worked at Goldsmiths Cosmetic Department in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon returning to Kentucky she and her husband Joe went to work for J. Jerod Associates in Benton, Kentucky and Florida. After some time there, she and Joe moved to Hickman and became managers for the Hickman County Country Club where she made many friends before retiring from there after several years.
Jean is survived by her husband Joe Kemp Johnson; her three children, Cynthia Lynn Dotson Newsom Cartwright of Chicago, Illinois, Jamie Kent Dotson and wife Susan of Kingsport, Tennessee and Julie Ann Dotson Lindsay and husband Richard of Calvert City, Kentucky; one step daughter Angela Marie Johnson Mayfield and husband John of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two sisters in law, Barbara Ann Hollingsworth and Dolly Johnson of Hickman, Kentucky; three grandsons, Jason Dale Newsom, Joshua Lee Cartwirght, and Zachary Allen Lindsey; five granddaughters, Brandi Jean Atkins, Meagan Nicole Dotson and Mallory Elise Desveaux, Whitney Gentry, and Ashley Spindler; five great granddaughters, Haley Nicole and twins, Hannah Rose and Katie Elizabeth Cartwright, Sophia Grace and Ava Michelle Newsom; four great grandsons, Brady Lee, Colton Allen, Hudson Michael Atkins, and Grayson Allen Lindsay; two step great granddaughters, Addison Gentry and Sophia Spindler; four step grandsons, Noah and Christopher Reed and Dylan and Liam Desveaux; and several loving nephews and nieces including special twins, Don Larimer and niece Dianne Stice, also, Kerry Gillihan and Kandi Clark.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children’s dad, James Murel Dotson; four brothers, Coy Jewell Gillihan, James Jr. Gillihan, Jessie Clayton Gillihan and Curtis Owen Gillihan; two sisters, Mary Lorene Gillihan Larimer and Eura Gillihan Goodaker; her grandparents, Samuel Gillihan and Martha Lampkin Gillihan and James L. Ahart and Navade Graham Ahart; her special brother in law and primitive Baptist preacher, Elder Arlie Levi Larimer; her special friend Evelyn Ross Franklin and her husband C.R. Franklin; and her adoptive “mama” Ethyl Pat Roberts.
She was an animal lover to all of God’s creatures, including Cindy’s dog, “Precious”, who became her granddog for 16 years.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 9, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Hickman with Bro.Chip Davis and Bro.Tom Quimby officiating. Burial will follow at Fairdealing Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, December 9, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Hickman.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary will be her Sunday School class members at First Baptist Church of Hickman, Kentucky.
