NEWS RELEASE
CADIZ, Ky. (October 31, 2022) – Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 1 are investigating a Monday morning collision that claimed the life of a Trigg County woman. Just after 9:00am CT, Post 1 Dispatch received a call from Trigg County Dispatch advising that there was a two vehicle collision on US-68/KY-80 at the intersection of Blue Springs Road and requested Kentucky State Police assistance with the investigation. KSP Post 1 troopers responded to the scene to investigate the collision.
Initial investigation shows Marcie Birdsong, 70 years old of Cadiz, Kentucky was traveling south on Blue Springs Road, operating a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, with passenger Everett Birdsong, 75 years old of Cadiz, Kentucky. Jillian Plunkett, 18 years old of Greenbriar, TN was traveling west on US-68/KY-80, operating a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, pulling a 2000 TP Towlite horse trailer. In an attempt to turn left onto US-68/KY-80, the Toyota Tacoma entered US-68/KY-80 into the path of the Chevrolet Silverado. The Chevrolet Silverado struck the Toyota Tacoma in the driver’s side. Marcie Birdsong was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner. Everette Birdsong was flown to an out of state hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Jillian Plunkett was transported to Trigg County Hospital where she was treated and released with minor injuries. All occupants were wearing their seat belts. A horse in the trailer being pulled by the Chevrolet Silverado was uninjured.
The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Mike Ray. Kentucky State Police, Post 1 was assisted on scene by Trigg County Rescue, Trigg County EMS, Kentucky Highway Department, Trigg County Highway Department, and Stinnett’s Towing.
