Dorothy Rose Shockley Hardy of Goodlettsville, TN, originally of Wickliffe, KY, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 with her family beside her on Sunday, October 9, 2022. She was known as Dorothy, D.R., Dorothy Rose, and, most recently, Dot, to her grandchildren and new-found friends.
Dorothy was born in Wickliffe, KY on April 18, 1928. Her father worked for the railroad, and her family lived on Mobile and Ohio Road in Winford, a short distance from Wickliffe. They would ride to school in the morning with a railroad worker that was going into town. They attended church in Wickliffe where their father would meet them after checking the tracks on the railroad three-wheel.
As a teenager Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her many Brack cousins and the Rollins girls. She was friends with all of them for decades and missed them in her later years. She and Anita Howell, her dear friend in Wickliffe, would laugh and giggle on their weekly trips to Paducah.
After high school, she met and married Fred Hardy, also of Wickliffe. Fred was an iron worker, which caused them to travel around the country for each new job, many times with her brother Buddy and his wife Joyce. Of note, they were in Michigan to work on the Mackinaw Island Bridge and in South Dakota to build the missile silos. Two daughters were born while they traveled, and in 1964 they returned to Wickliffe, where they bought the Wickliffe Motel, opened a real estate business, built a grocery store and subdivision, and had daughter number three.
Dorothy was a member of Wickliffe First Baptist Church and participated in many community activities. She loved the Lord and gospel quartet music. She would wake the house on Sunday mornings with the Gospel Jubilee TV program ringing through the house.
Dot and Fred moved to Goodlettsville, TN in 2008 to live in a home on the same street as Lisa, Linda and their families. They would pay the ice cream truck and tell them to stop for the two boys and two girls down the street. She felt blessed beyond measure. She loved her friends and her time in Goodlettsville, with wonderful neighbors that watched out and took care of her when needed. Her family is so thankful for them and for all the love shown her by First Baptist Church Goodlettsville.
Her favorite role was being a mother. She created a loving home for her daughters and anyone that visited. It was a sanctuary for her girls where there was no arguing or strife, just lots of food, good humor and great love. She became a grandmother later in life and that completed her purpose. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially time on the beach listening to the ocean waves for hours.
Dot is survived by her two daughters, Linda Scott (Steve) of Goodlettsville, TN, Lori Ho-Tung (George) of Decatur, AL, and Son-in-law Randi Brooks of Goodlettsville. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; Andrew and Ryan Scott, and Calli and Courtney Brooks; her brother Buddy Shockley (Paulette) and nephew Tim Shockley (Ellen).
Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hardy, her beloved daughter, Lisa Hardy Brooks, her parents, LeRoy and Bertha Shockley and her sister, Maurine Shockley.
The family looks forward to receiving visitors at Cole and Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville, TN on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Dot will be moved to Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe on Thursday, October 13, 2022 for the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Butch Latta officiating. Burial will follow at the Wickliffe Cemetery. Friends are welcome starting at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe.

It is her season to rest; the family thanks everyone for the love shared with her over her long, lovely life. We will miss our matriarch but there is rejoicing in Heaven. God is faithful.
