On 10/4/2022 the Sheriff’s Office took two separate calls in reference a scam on Facebook Marketplace. The first caller was the owner of a residence in West Paducah who had four citizens show up today to pick up items they had paid for on FB Marketplace. The homeowner knew nothing about the items in question.
We spoke to a victim from Metropolis, IL who had traveled to the address in West Paducah to pick up an item she had paid a deposit on.
The homeowner said all four victims of the scam had paid money for items that did not exist.
The scammer’s profile has since been deleted on Facebook.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind you to be very aware of tactics scammers may use on social media. If the item is much cheaper than it should be, that’s usually a good sign as the scammer is trying to make quick profit.
