Saturday’s Marshall County Invitational hosted 734 runners

Marshall County’s Walker Jones and Sawyer Collins are spotted in a sea of 222 varsity boys near the start of Saturday’s Marshall County Invitational cross country meet.

Cape Girardeau Notre Dame’s Lauren Eftink and Drew Burden from Madisonville-North Hopkins took the varsity wins at Saturday’s 44th Marshall County Invitational cross country meet. Eftink stopped the clock on the 5K course in 19:37.04 and Burden finished in 16:39.06.

The Madisonville-North Hopkins girls and boys swept the meet taking the varsity team titles.

Marshall County’s Addison Lyles finished eighth in the huge field of 161 runners in the girl’s race. Lyles finished with a time of 21:26.44. Also running for the Lady Marshals, Delaney Miller finished in 31:17.11.

Second place went to St. Mary’s Gabby Ault (20:05.12) and third to Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Joy Alexander (20:21.85).

Ethan McCarty had the top finish for the Marshall County boys, crossing the line in 21st with a time of 18:31.67 in the field of 222 runners. Sawyer Collins finished 29th in 18:51.56, Walker Jones was 30th with a time of 18:53.92 and Daniel Walker finished 58th in 19:50.72. Sam Martin (22:41.17), Gabriel Niloff (27:22.47), Nathan Foster (29:01.48) and Kasey Wyatt (29:13.85) also competed for the Marshals.

Webster County’s Garrett West finished second in 16:59.48 and third place went to Austin Cavanaugh from Trigg County with a time of 17:09.09.

The Marshals finished eighth in team standings.

In middle school races, Braelyn Spalding crossed in 11th in the 4K girls race for the top Marshall County result. Spalding finished with a time of 20:16.85. Emmie Underwood from Fort Campbell took the win in 16:30.66.

The top finish for the boys came from Owen Futrell with 17th place in 17:43.86. Not far behind was Jared Gaudy who finished 20th in 18:09.77. Murray’s Steeven Binfield-Smith placed first with a time of 15:44.96.

Winning the elementary 1600-meter races, for the girls it was Jimena Salazar from Heritage Christian and the boy’s winner was Alex Peterson of Lone Oak Intermediate.

A total of 734 elementary through high school runners competed in Saturday’s Invitational.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Sophomore Addison Lyles posted the top Marshall County result at Saturday’s meet finishing eighth in the girls’ varsity race with a time of 21:26.44.
Ethan McCarty posted the top finish for the Marshals. The senior finished 21st in 18:31.67.
