Now there are 3 deceased public servants (1-sheriff’s deputy, 2-city police officers, & 1-Police K9). Multiple other law enforcement officers received injuries and some remain in the hospital. 1 additional civilian was also injured.

• Captain Ralph Frasure, a thirty-nine-year law enforcement veteran who served with Prestonsburg Police Department (PPD) since 1983.
• Deputy William Petry, a thirty-one-year law enforcement veteran who served two years with Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), fifteen years with KSP, and fourteen years with PPD.
• Officer Jacob Chaffins, a three-year law enforcement veteran who served the PPD since 2019.
• K-9 Drago, a German Shepherd drug detection canine, a six-year veteran with FCSO.

The shooter is in custody. Allen, KY has a population of 755 people.

Please pray for the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Prestonsburg Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and other involved first responders following the tragic shooting events in Floyd County this evening. Multiple officers are down and injured. Prayers for all involved.
UPDATE #2: Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Floyd County
ALLEN CITY, Ky. (July 2, 2022) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) continues to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at approximately 6:44 p.m. EST in Floyd County.
The preliminary investigation has determined three law enforcement officers and one K-9 have been pronounced deceased after sustaining injuries from Thursday night’s officer-involved shooting.
• Captain Ralph Frasure, a thirty-nine-year law enforcement veteran who served with PPD since 1983.
• Deputy William Petry, a thirty-one-year law enforcement veteran who served two years with FCSO, fifteen years with KSP, and fourteen years with Prestonsburg Police Department (PPD).
• Officer Jacob Chaffins, a three-year law enforcement veteran who served the PPD since 2019.
• K-9 Drago, a German Shepherd drug detection canine, a six-year veteran with FCSO.
“This is another hard day for Kentucky as we mourn the loss of three brave officers and a K-9 who gave their lives while protecting the people of Floyd County,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “Britainy and I ask the commonwealth to join us in praying for the family and loved ones of Captain Ralph Frasure, Deputy William Petry and Officer Jacob Chaffins. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.
