Felon Arrested for Possessing Handgun

On May 7, 2022 at approximately 11:30 PM, a Deputy with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling Hovekamp Road. The Deputy observed a person walking along the side of the road and spoke with the individual.

The individual was identified as Reco Mayes of Paducah, KY. The Deputy determined that 41 years old Mayes was wanted pursuant to a warrant out of Illinois. During this interaction, the Deputy also located a handgun in a backpack that Mayes was carrying. Mayes is a convicted felon and cannot legally possess a firearm.

Mayes has previous convictions for theft of a firearm, other theft offenses, and drug offenses.

Mayes was arrested and lodged in the McCracken County Jail for Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon as well as pursuant to the Illinois arrest warrant.
