Suspect(s): Davaar Q. Shannon, 32, of Brookport, IL, arrested on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (drug unspecified), trafficking in marijuana (more than eight ounces/second offense), second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), failure to produce insurance card, no registration plates, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended or revoked operator’s license, resisting arrest and second-degree criminal mischief
An Illinois man awaiting sentencing after a previous McCracken County drug conviction was arrested after fleeing from officers late Tuesday night.
Officer Logan Barrow stopped a black Jeep Grand Cherokee for having no registration plates at 11:37 p.m. Tuesday on the parking lot of a motel in the 5100 block of Cairo Road. The driver, later identified as Davaar Q. Shannon, fled on foot and was caught a short distance away by Officer Pedro Loredo.
In a backpack Shannon was carrying, officers found just less than a pound of (15.13 ounces) marijuana in multiple plastic bags, $2,100 cash, scales, two cellular phones and a box of small plastic baggies commonly used to package marijuana. A bottle Shannon dropped contained 22 Oxycodone pills. Officers found additional marijuana and another Oxycodone pill in the Jeep Shannon was driving.
A search warrant was obtained for the room in which Shannon was staying at the motel. A woman there was cited for possession of marijuana and released.
Shannon was arrested on the above-listed charges and booked into McCracken County Regional Jail. Court records show on Feb. 23, 2022, Shannon entered an Alford plea to a charge of trafficking in a controlled substance (carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives), and pleaded guilty to trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in a controlled substance and fleeing or evading police (on foot) in McCracken County. He was scheduled to be sentenced on May 3.
