
The Lady Marshals hosted the annual Marshall County Slugfest on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Marshals beat Madisonville-North Hopkins 12-6 on Friday and fell to South Warren 16-0 on Saturday.
In Friday’s 12-6 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins, it was a big night for senior Charley Pursley who hit a double and a grand slam.
Down 1-0, the Lady Marshals tied the game on Pursley’s RBI double in the bottom of the first inning and took a 2-1 lead when Pursley scored on a wild pitch. Madisonville tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third but the Lady Marshals plated two more in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Madisonville cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth but the Lady Marshals pulled away with a four-run bottom of the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch, triple by Anna Vasseur and an error to lead 8-3.
Pursley’s inside the park grand slam in the bottom of the fifth gave the Lady Marshals a 12-3 lead. Madisonville scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to cut the final score to 12-6.
Gracelyn Darnall earned the win over seven innings, striking out two while allowing 14 hits and six runs.

South Warren had 19 hits on their way to a five-inning 16-0 shut out over the Lady Marshals on Saturday. The Lady Spartans scored runs in each of the first five innings including two big six run at bats in the third and fifth innings.
Caroline Pitcock hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning and a two-run home run in the third to lead South Warren with six RBIs. McLaine Hudson was also big at the plate for South Warren with a double, home run and three RBIs.
Four hits by the Lady Marshals came from Anna Vasseur, Charley Pursley and two from Gracelyn Darnall.
Selynna Metcalfe allowed three hits and no runs over three innings to earn the 11th win for the Lady Spartans.
South Warren (11-2) beat McCracken County 10-9 in Saturday’s Slugfest, handing the #1 Lady Mustangs their first loss of the season. They currently rank fifth in KHSAA RPI rankings behind McCracken County in fourth.
