On Saturday, August 22 at 7:57 pm, a 911 call was received from 650 College Avenue Apartment A-5. A female caller stated there were people at the apartment that were not supposed to be there. A McCracken County Deputy Sheriff was dispatched to the address for the original call. At 8:08 pm a neighbor called 911 and reported shots had been fired. At this same time a deputy sheriff was arriving on scene and discovered the victims inside apartment 5.

Deputies were able to obtain a description of both individuals that were believed to be involved in the incident and identify one of them by name.

One of the victims was pronounced deceased at the scene and the second victim was transported to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency professionals, the second victim succumbed to his injuries also.

At 9:02 pm, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was informed that a black female matching the description of one of the individuals that had fled the scene was observed in the area of 500 Columbus Avenue, which is a very short distance from where the shooting had occurred.

McCracken County Deputies and Paducah Police K-9 Officers responded to the area to locate the female in question. K-9 officers began a track which ultimately led to the discovery of the first suspect, Mykweze Cox of Houston Texas. Cox was taken into custody without incident and immediately made statements pertaining to him being the shooter.

The second person of interest was identified as being Alexis Graham, also of Texas. She was located 8 minutes later at 9:40 and taken into custody without incident.

As tragic as this event was, I am very thankful and proud of the law enforcement teamwork exhibited. The suspects were taken into custody within one hour and thirty-two minutes from the time the 911 call was received concerning shots being fired.

Cox admitted to detectives that he had discarded the weapon used in the shooting and agreed to point out the area he believed it was. In a thicket near where Cox was apprehended, we located the semi-automatic handgun in question. The weapon had rounds remaining in the magazine and one chambered.

Both Cox and Graham were transported to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office where interviews were conducted. Graham admitted that she went with Cox to the apartment in question to collect some money that was allegedly owed. At some point both Cox and Graham entered the apartment and proceeded to a locked bedroom. Cox allegedly made entry into the bedroom at which time a verbal argument ensued. Cox admitted that the victims told them to leave the apartment and they refused unless they collected their money. Cox admitted that he was at the apartment to collect for a drug debt.

As the altercation escalated it resulted in Cox firing multiple rounds at both victims. Both Cox and Graham admitted that Cox was the shooter.

Detectives later located the vehicle that Cox and Graham had arrived at 650 College Avenue in, a 2001 BMW. It is believed Cox and Graham were disoriented after they left the apartment and could not find the vehicle, which resulted in them fleeing the scene on foot.

The victims in this case were identified as being Justice Hicks, 23 years of age, and Victor E. Moore, 31 years of age, both of Paducah. Please keep the family of these victims in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.
