
The Marshals played five games from April 3 to April 6 at The Ripken Experience in Mrytle Beach, SC over their Spring Break. Against three teams from Kentucky and two out of Virginia, they came away with a 2-3 record.
Against Highlands in their first game on Sunday, the Marshals fell 9-2. They led 2-0 after two innings before Highlands tied the game 2-2 in the fourth, going on to score four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. Alex Staples led at the plate with two hits for the Marshals. Carter McKinney took the loss from the mound in five and a third innings, allowing seven hits and four runs.

In Sunday’s second game, the Marshals beat Knox Central 8-7 on 12 hits. After trailing 6-0 early, they scored two runs in the fourth and added five in the seventh to tie the game 7-7 and send it into an extra inning. A run in the top of the eighth sealed the win on a balk by the Highlands pitcher that brought Alex Staples to the plate. Chase Hayden was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, Staples 2-for-5 with an RBI and Chase Shelton 2-for-4. Ty Davenport hit a double with an RBI and Evan Oakley a triple and finished with three RBIs. Staples was the winning pitcher, striking out six over three innings on the mound while allowing one hit and zero runs.

Two games on Monday began with a 3-2 win over Chantilly, VA. All three runs for the Marshals came in the third inning when a 2-out triple hit by Evan Oakley cleared the bases. Oakley pitched a complete game to earn the win, striking out 10 while allowing five hits and two runs.

In game two on Monday, the Marshals were shut out 6-0 by North Laurel. Alex Smith pitched the complete game shutout for North Laurel, striking out three while allowing four hits. Those hits came from Alex Staples, Reese Oakley, Ty Davenport and Chase Shelton. Reese Oakley took the loss in his five innings of work, striking out five, allowing seven hits and six runs.

In their final game in Mrytle Beach on Wednesday, the Marshals fell 4-1 to Oakton, VA. Chase Shelton earned the RBI in the top of the third, driving in Jace Driver who took base after being hit by a pitch. The Marshals two hits in the game came from Shelton in the top of the first and Chase Hayden in the top of the seventh. Despite striking out seven batters, the loss went to Hayden who allowed four hits and four runs over six innings.

The Marshals (10-5) have a full week of home games next week starting Monday against Trigg County. Thursday they host McCracken County, play Hickman County on Friday and finish up on Saturday against Mt. Vernon, Ill.
